Until the problem began to occur, MS Office 2000 worked well on my Toshiba
notebook computer running on Windows XP Home Edition.
(No problem using Word with this same configuration on six other desk top
computers running on Win XP Pro OS)
(Not using Norton Anivirus software)

Now, Sometimes... when trying to close a word file the appearance of the
window becomes "subdued" and inaccessible like it is waiting for a dialogue
box to open.

Sometimes… the window can be restored by pressing the Esc key…
Sometimes… the file can be closed from the keyboard with a “Ctrl+S, Ctrl+W”
Sometimes… a file can be closed if it is first minimized and then closed
(via right click) from the status bar.
Sometimes… I must press the Ctrl+Alt+Del and “End Task” from the Task Manager

In an attempt to correct the problem I have done the following:
Uninstalled and then reinstalled MS Office 2000
Updated Win XP Home OS with Service Pack 2
Check other programs (Anti-virus, Outlook Express, etc.) for links to MS Word
Uninstalled MS Outlook (I use Outlook Express)
Run the MS Word “Help” + “Detect and Repair” (twice)
Searched the MS Office web site for solutions.
