word 2000 generates invalid page fault on startup

When I start word 2000 (windows 98), I get the error:

WINWORD cased an invalid page fault in module WINWORD.exe
at 018f:303e4fbd

There is nothing I can do except invoke the debugger or
exit.

Reinstalling does not help.

Can anyone help me?
