Saving a File in Word 2002

Currently on the verge of tearing my hair out
when i try and save a file , all I get is a pop up box stating
This is not a valid file name
Try one or more of the following
* Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly.
*Select a file from the list of files and folders
()
Any suggestions (shorting of throwing the pc out of the window) welcome
