I just uninstalled Word 2003 and went back to Word 2000.
Seems my 1 GHz P4 CPU, 512 MB RAM, and high performance
video display just weren't adequate for running it!
What a pig! It seemed to get behind and lose track of
refreshing the display - you could "out scroll" it easily,
and there was a noticeable delay in the key response - even
though it seemed to "keep up", it gave a feel like the
keyboard was stiff.
No longer what you see is what you get - it was "well,
maybe I'll get around to refreshing this screen in the next
30 seconds, maybe I'll just NOT do it!". That's a BUG, in my
opinion. You should NOT feel like you can out type a word
processor.
One other thing. Something apparently is added to the Word
file format. An 18 page document I had been working on in
2000, which was just over 3 MB suddenly became 23 MB in
Word 2003!
It's ridiculous to need a 3.6 GHz CPU with 1 GB of fast RAM
just to run a WORD PROCESSOR.
I wondering just how much more wasteful crap Microsoft can
possibly attach to Office.
Word 2003 seems to be the Hummer of Word Processors,
massively and needlessly wasteful.
