Re: CE 6.0 Remote Tools - How to use? Platform Manager not recommended!

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Bruce:
Thanks for contributing to this issue with CE 6.0 R2.

Verified that "Target Control Support" catalog item is indeed checked
within "Kernel Functionality" group.

Also have tried the procedure documented by Sue Loh at
http://blogs.msdn.com/ce_base/archive/2007/04/02/using-platform-builder-remote-tools-over-activesync.aspx
and that didn't make anything better for me.

based upon her procedure, have tried configuring all combinations of
Transport and Startup Server in "Configure Windows CE Platform
Manager" to no avail:

#1 - Microsoft ActiveSync and KITL Bootstrap Server combo seems
"almost work". Status text indicates "Establishing platform manager
connection to device" forever. Never completes!

#2 - KITL Transport for Windows CE and KITL Bootstrap combo causes
this reaction from the target:
CreateNewProc failure on CEMGRC.EXE!, dwErr = 00000002
NKCreateProcess exit: dwErr = 00000002
OSAXST1: <<< Unloading Module '' (0x8734E264) at address
0x00000000-0x00000000 in Process '' (0x8734E264)

#3 - Microsft ActiveSync and Microsoft ActiveSync combo results in a
pop-up within Platform Builder stating:
"Unable to establish connection with device. Please check
server configuration settings"

For #3 above, are "server configuration settings" referring to options
with Target Connectivty dialog??

Thanks!

Simple Question: How does one make use of the Remote Tools from CE 6.0
R2 ?

If you are connected trough PB using KITL & CeShell you don't need any
client inside the image.
If your device uses ActiveSync the files will be transferred and
executed as required (you may need to allow them to execute if you
implemented the exe validation functions inside your OAL).
If you want to use them over a TCP/IP link you should add Visual Studio
remote debugging client and use its connectivity layer for the remote
tools (you'll have to launch the tools under the Visual Studio start
menu group and not those from PB tools menu).
To add the VS debugger to your OS design you can check this
