When it hangs it does not respond to any user input (touchscreen) , the
clock in the tray freezes and also the telnet connection can no longer be
opened

I dont have PB i am just an OEM building a product with an embedded SBC.from
third party.

Connect to a server that just sends randow data
reads the data from the connection in an endless loop

The i.mx31 board hangs after 15 minutes to some hours.

The system does not show any abnormal memory use (at all times i
have 47Mb free RAM )

Any idea where to start looking ?

What do you mean with "the board hangs"?
Did you try with PB debugger connected to your device?

If the OS is hung, you may check if the network adapter is requesting
an IRQ. If the driver cannot service it in the right way, it may keep
that request pending, preventing threads with a priority lower than
the network adapter IST from running.
