Another thing - related to what Yan brought up - is to check for the list of
allowed programs in your Windows Firewall setup. Again, this should have
been done during setup, but it's good to check:
* Goto Start > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Firewall.
* In the General tab, make sure the "On (recommended)" radio button is
selected, and "Don't allow exceptions" is not checked.
* In the Exceptions tab, under the Programs and Services list, look for
entries named "Platform Builder CE Service Host" and "Platform Builder
Platman Service Manager". They should be enabled (checked).
If these aren't listed, then you could try these commands from a command
prompt (there are two long lines here, both start with "netsh"):
netsh firewall add allowedprogram "%systemdrive%\program files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\windows ce tools\platman\bin\cemgr.exe" ENABLE
netsh firewall add allowedprogram "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\CoreCon\5.01\bin\cesvchost.exe" ENABLE
and then try connecting any Platform builder remote tool to your device.

Hi Nick:
Your latest response seems to indicate a connectivity issue with your
device, but the description of your earlier problem seemed to suggest that
performance counters weren't installed correctly.
I hate to answer a question with more questions, but we'll need a bit more
clarity on your setup.
[Platman connectivity issues]
(1) Are you able to connect other remote tools using the same Connectivity
Options? For instance, can you run File Viewer and successfully see the
list of files on the device?
(1a) what do you have set for the Device Properties dialog (goto
Connection > Configure Windows CE Platform Manager) for the Transport and
Startup Server settings? And what about the Configuration details on each?
[Installation issues]
(2) The CE perf counters are configured in the desktop registry under this
key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
Open RegEdit on the desktop, and look under that key for subkeys like
"CEBatPerf_600\Performance". You will find a value "CEPerfLibrary_600",
where the DLL for specific Perf counters are installed.
Do you see such values in your registry?
If you don't, you have an installation problem - as the Windows Embedded
CE setup is supposed to set these registry keys up. This brings me to the
next set of questions:
(3) What desktop OS are using?
(4) If running Vista, or XP with a non-admin account, can you try
installing Windows Embedded CE (assuming you are using 6.0) as an
Administrator?
HTH. I'll check back later to see if these tips helped.

hi,
I am dealing with a Remote Performance Monitor problem. Somehow I am
unable to add objects to the chart since the Object lists are empty.
I already tried to uninstall and install Platform Builder without
success.
Please help...
Nick
