I just read an article in MSDN magazine about the .NET framework
3.0 and in particular a new feature that enables one to develop a
new look for controls in the framework using templates that
describe the visual appearance (Foundations - Charles Petzold).
Using Windows Presentation Foundation one does not need to write a
sub-classed control to get a different appearance, simply define a
new look template. Does anyone know if this feature will become
available in the compact framework? We have a number of "custom
look" controls to develop and this would reduce development time
for us.

On windows CE you can customize the appearance of the UI and controls
at system level. It's not a mechanism as powerful as the one you have
in WPF but it could lead to good results for some kinds of
applications.
