The "sysgening platform" message is found in sysgenplatform.bat. You might
add some more echo messages there to see what exactly is going on, or to
localize it a bit, anyway.

I have attached a screen shot showing output when PB 4.0 hangs during an
automated build. We had been using this approach on a Windows 2000 build
since CE 4.0 came out and it was very reliable. Now with XP professional it
fails approximately 1 in 3 times. If anyone has any ideas, we routinely
test it by scheduling builds every hour so it is fair easy to test ideas.
I should mention that it also hangss at a similar rate during manual
builds from the IDE. And there are 2-3 output variations when it hangs
but this one is the most common.

What is PB doing when it stops? It's something specific to you, but
we'll
have to figure out what. I'd check the disks and controllers, although
your
duplication on a second piece of hardware certainly suggests that's not
the
problem.

Paul,
Only PB is hung and other applications work fine. Although we have not
explicitly run disk or disk controller diagnostics, the fact that other
apps like evc++ 4.0 work properly suggests that disk access is not the
problem. We are running on Dell GX620 PCs , have installed on two
different PCs and reinstalled twice on one of them but the problem
persistes.

No, it (at least 4.2), runs flawlessly, at least with respect to
finishing, on my XP machines (I've run it on two different ones and the
everyday build machine runs XP). You're sure it's hung and not just
performing some long process? Disk type on which the build is being
run?
Run the usual diagnostics to be sure that the disk isn't going south?
Hard disk controller tests OK? Try a different PC?

Recently we installed PB 4.0 on a desktop PC running Windows XP
Professional
and have had nothing but problems. Approximately one in three build
attempts
ends with PB hanging before completion. We have
uninstalled/reinstalled
PB
4.0 on one PC and also installed it on a second XP PC but the problem
ultimately reoccurs.
Previously, we had PB 4.0 installed on a Windows 2000 professional
desktop
and experienced problems very rarely. Unfortunately, our IT
department
is
upgrading all PCs to XP and we must have CE 4.0 development capability
for
legacy support.
I would be interested in learning if other developers have had similar
experiences with this configuration and if anyone has a fix.
