Re: 802.11 config problems

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Rather than testing at the clients site again I went out and bought a dlink
router

Short story:

WPA2 is not supported in my WinCE image or both of my wireless adapters

WEP 64 and 128 work ok

WPA works ok.

Tests:

ssid test1

channel 7

WEP

Shared key

64bit

HEX

Key1 0000000000

Authenticates OK

ssid test1

channel 7

WEP

Shared key

128bit

HEX

Key1 00000000000000000000000000

Authenticates OK

ssid = test2

channel 7

WPA

PSK

Passphrase = testtest2

Authenticates OK

ssid test3

channel 7

WPA2

PSK

Passphrase = testtest3

FAILS but show in available networks

When I open the config menu it does not automatically switch to WPA

In my WinCE encryption box I do not have a WPA2 only TKIP and WEP

Can I assume that you're using the DLink utility to configure the AP? Are
you setting the Shared Key flag or the Open flag in the Authentication
type? How are you entering the WEP key, hex digits or text string? 40-bit
or 128-bit? You have WEP Key #1 selected as the default key and that's
where you've entered the key string?

I did a fresh rebuild of my dev machine about a moth ago with all the
Platform Builder QFE's

All of theses work on the Linksys AP.

TKIP WEP-PSK TLS
WEP shared seceret - manual key
Security Disabled.

Only security disabled works for the DLink AP.

I've tested this with 3 seperate DLink AP's.

This is a problem I have to fix becuase my main client sells DLink to his
customers.

Doubtful. More likely the router is configured in a way that prevents
your connection. How, exactly, do you have it set up, security-wise,
when it doesn't work? You're running all of the latest QFEs for your
operating system?

My WinCE 5.0 image using an 802.11B/G wirless adapter is able to
connect to a Linksys router using WEP but unable to connect ot a D-Link
router.

I get authenticating then faild to connect and it drops out of the list
of available AP's.

I am able to connect to both with security disabled.

Is this a sysgen issue?

I get the same results with a miniPCI card and the US Robotics NDIS USB
adaptar.
