Re: timesvc problem synchronizing time

In my application i´m only calling GetSystemTime() and GetLocalTime().
I never call a SetTime function. Only the timesvc is the actor setting the
time.

The timezone of the WinCE device (time client) is set to "W. Europe Standard
Time" (also GMT+01:00).
The timezone of the time server is set to Berlin (GMT+01:00)

After timesvc has get the time from the server, a call of GetSystemTime()
returns the system time of the server - 1hour. And a call of GetLocalTime()
returns the system time of the server.

(I set the time of the server to a different time as the time of the client,
so i can detect, that the client has get the new time.)

Andy

I need to clarify a bit what you're doing.

After synchronizing the timesvc (WinCE 5.0) set the local time to the
system time of the time server.
And the system time of the client is set to system time of the time
server - 1 hour.

When you say "set the local time", it sounds as if you in some application
are explicitly calling SetLocalTime() after the timesvc has done it's magic.
Is this what you're saying, or are saying it as if the timesvc is the actor
setting the time and your app isn't doing anything special here?

If you're explicitly calling the time apis in your app, is it like:
London Time: 1PM (aka 1PM GMT)
Paris Time: 2PM
Device is in Paris as is server

CEDevice SetLocalTime(Server.SystemTime==1PM? (if it's GMT))

I´ve now updated my system with the following files:

WinCEPB50-051231-Product-Update-Rollup-X86.msi
WinCEPB50-060131-2006M01-X86.msi
WinCEPB50-060228-2006M02-X86.msi

After rebuilding my platform, the same failure with local and system time
happens.

Andy, this sounds somewhat like http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908026.
Have you installed the latest + greatest QFE's (or at least this one).
You
should make sure you get KB913551 while you're at it as that fixes
another
timesvc bug.

My OS image is based on the gateway template. It includes the timesvc
which i
want to use as a client.

The timezone of the client is GMT +01:00.
The timezone of the server is GMT +01:00.

After synchronizing the timesvc (WinCE 5.0) set the local time to the
system time of the time server. And the system time of the client is
set
to
system time of the time server - 1 hour.

This is the result i get by calling the functions GetLocalTime and
GetSystemTime.

What´s wrong?

Regards,
Andy
