RE: Strange Static IP address problems

I posted what may be a related question a couple of weeks ago. The problem
sounds like what I hit when a customer set a CE 4.1 box to the local host
address at 127.x.x.x.

In NetUI, there is what appears to have been a start at preventing local
host and some of the broadcast addresses.

It would limit:
127.x.x.x
0.x.x.x
(224-255).x.x.x
x.x.255.x

Doesn't look like you hit these, but if you hit one of the ranges, the
description sounds correct.

I'm actually not working on this project, but my former boss asked me
to post. (He doesn't speak English) So, I might not have all the
relevant information, but hopefully will be able to find out what he
needs.

1. He says his problem occurs when he tries to use a specific address.

At first, the connection works fine.

IP: 172.16.200.242
Gateway: 172.16.200.254
Mask: 255.255.255.0

However, when he changes the address to 172.16.200.243, then the
connection dies. He can't use the network again (even for the original
IP address that worked) until he totally reformats everything including
the hive. However, he tried to use a totally different address like
218.146.1.37 and there were no problems. He tried with a cross cable
with the same results.

The method used to change the IP address is through the Hive registry.

2. The platform is Windows CE 4.2, with the Samsung S3C2410x CPU. He is
currently using the hive registry. There have been no other problems
with this platform.

This platform has been in use for more than 2 years.
He tried using a cross cable to directly connect the platform to his
PC.
The problem doesn't occur if the IP address is something like
IP: 218.146.1.105
Gateway: 218.146.1.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0 or 128

There was a VPN recently installed in his company which was why he
suddenly changed to the new IP address range.

Is there something special about the IP address 172.16.200.xxx ? I'll
do more research on that, but my former boss asked me to make sure that
there weren't any bugs inherent to Windows CE 4.2. I'm as stumped as he
is, but I haven't done any real research yet...

Thank you in advance.
