carn't remove rndis connection

I have been trying a build to use rndis and in the past this has worked.
However recently I had need to re-install some pieces of software including
PB and the rndis connection over usb no longer works. On connecting the usb
target to host the target appears to run fine getting an ip address and
creating a connection. The host PC though shows a new network card but
there is no ip information available using ipconfig. On trying to remove
the device it says it failed because it might be needed to start the system
I originally used a linux.inf file to force the XP host to use its own
drivers for this card. How can I now remove this connection or at least
remove the association between the VID/PID numbers so that on re-plugging
the target it asks for driver again. If I try to uninstall them it just
hangs.
Many Thanks
Paul
