Yes, you can use the serial port as an alternative method of getting debug.
Download over serial is *very* slow, though. As I said, if you need to
download over Ethernet, you must have two adapters.
If you want to send messages over serial and don't need to debug, which
might be true, depending on what you're starting from driver-wise, yes, you
can disable KITL debugging and just read all of the messages that come out.
How, exactly, you choose that vs. Ethernet depends on your BSP.
To disable KITL debugging, open the Platform | Settings... menu item. Make
sure that the root item in the tree view at the left edge of the dialog is
selected, not some subsidiary item. Choose the Build Options tab. Uncheck
Enable KITL and Enable Kernel Debugger.
