user mode to kernel mode

hai,
i know that kernel mode has full rights to access and user mode is
restricted ,how is it implemented...if user mode api is called it inturn
calls kernel api .....how it is recognised .....any flags in page tables
entries or in that way...pls tell me ,my idea is not clear..it is heard that
issuing software interrupt of 30h is the way
pls help experts...
