Re: Field Updates of Windows CE

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Paul,

Our processor is the Atmel AT91SAM9260 and our BSP is based on the Adeneo
9260 dev kit BSP (which does not currently have this support). I agree
that
it might be difficult to add the SD card support at the bootloader level
because you need both the SD card driver and the FATFS support. However,
I
don't think it would take that much effort because the AT91SAM9G20 has a
bootROM (64KB I think) that supports booting from an SD card with FAT FS
(I'm
trying to get access to this code now).

That seems perfect for you.

Interesting recommendation on not using eboot, but a different bootloader
entirely, hmm...

"eboot" always used to mean "Ethernet bootloader". That is, the bootloader
that would *always* download the OS from Platform Builder over Ethernet.
Maybe there's some revised meaning for that now. If you mean the generic
bootloader for something, you have to say "the bootloader", at least to me
;-)

Seems like there should be some effort within the WinCE team to increase
the
number of ways the eboot code use to update the NK.bin image :)

Thanks for your response,

Bill

I think that they see this as too hardware-specific to be a general
development. I mean, there's no way to make a generic bootloader that loads
from SD cards without having an SD card component for every piece of
hardware out there. The same is true for Compact Flash, etc. Even if you
had an example bootloader for some other piece of hardware, I'm not sure
that would be very valuable. The FAT code would be useful, but there's
probably some separate reason we don't get that.
