Re: connecting to CEPC under Vista

Thanks very much for the quick reply, we haven't yet updated the boxes in
the field but I am working on the same type of box here in the office on
which I have just installed all the latest QFEs. I have an XP and Vista PC
side by side on the same network, XP connects to the CEPC and the Vista
doesn't. I think that the earlier Vista problem might have been to do with
the UseAuthentication:0 registry key.

Interestingly, if I use the group policy editor in Vista to change the
"Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" from "Send NTLMv2
response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if
negotiated", then I get a bit further with the "Connecting to OurCEPCName"
dialog box asking for "User Name" and "Password". After typing these in, I
get another error "\\OurCEPCName is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: unknown
user name or bad password."

I think that CE5.0 supports NTLMv2 so am not sure why this would make any
difference. Is there a checklist anywhere of the requirements for Vista
settings that would enable this type of network share?

associated with SMB that came out in the last couple of months which fixed
some problems with Vista. Of course, your Vista machine will also have to
have the right protocol for file sharing installed (as well as support for
Windows networking, etc.) I think that this is the source of your problem
(although there's also firewall settings, the actual inclusion of folder
sharing support, etc.)

Hi all

We have a number of CE 5.0 PCs configured to share folders using
SMBServer.
Under XP if we type \\OurCEPCName in the explorer address we then get a
"Connecting to OurCEPCName" dialog box asking for "User Name" and
"Password".
Typing the correct values then allows us to access the shared folders.
This
works great and has been used for the last two years.

If we try the same thing from Vista, we get the error message:

"windows cannot find \\OurCEPCName. Check spelling and try again."

Any advice or pointers very much appreciated as we have customers in the
field upgrading to Vista PCs who are unable to connect to the CE PCs. I
have
just completed applying the latest rolled-up QFEs and this makes no
difference.
