Re: Development Licenses VS 2005 and 2008

If you're developing the Windows CE 6.0 OS itself on multiple systems, that
is, you have several copies of Platform Builder 6.0, each one of those comes
with VS2005 in the box, so you don't need to buy anything to get a suitable
development environment. Of course, buying Platform Builder once does not
give you the rights to make separate copies of it for everyone.

Howdy everyone,

I searched the NGs a bit but didn't see this specific question. If it has
been asked before my apologies. I have been an MSDN Premium subscriber for
some time, but I'm about to embark on development of a windows CE embedded
product (Windows CE6.0 specifically - and yes the system does have a 6.0
BSP). As a Premium subscriber (and I am sure this applies to
Professional -
but correct me if I am wrong) I am licensed to use VS2005 and 2008. THis
means of course I can create OS images in VS2005 environment with the
plugins
etc, and do application development on either VS2005 AND 2008.

The question I have is this. My company needs to purchase development
tools
for a couple of other team members. Can I purchase just VS2008 (without
any
and MSDN subscription) and does this give me a license to download and
install VS2005 (and use the embedded dev plugins) as well? Or to get
proper
licensing for both do I have to buy at a minimum an MSDN Professional
subscription for each seat?

The whole matter would have been simple had MS delivered the full
development plugins/tools/platform manager at the time of VS2008 shipment.

Thanks,
Michael Petch
