Well, you could port the CE 5.0 romboot to CE 6.0, it should be quite
simple. On some of our x96 CPU we have enough flash to install even a
DOS-like OS: if this is the case you could use loadcepc for your needs.
Right now, I cannot see why you should use a separate OS image to perform
the downloading or loading of the 'real' OS image: I would modify the
bootloader
I agree. Adding stuff to the already working booloader would be the
best, but, the problem is that i need both ethernet download and local
IDE support (preferably also USB)
The biosloader seems to only include the functionality to boot a local
image from first boot drive(as seen by BIOS)
this image could EITHER be NK.bin OR eboot.
What i need is a solution somewhat similar to what is used on ARM
cpu(eboot). When powered on, the unit displays a small menu where it
is possible to stop the boot process and download new image, if
nothing is done, the loader should load NK.bin located on a IDE or USB
drive(This is of course not available on arm)
Someone must have had the same needs before?
Using two different ce images is a bit messy, BUT, this would simplity
a future need for additional options. We could easity add support for
different ways of downloading the image(since we have CE running, then
we can make use of all drivers and APIs available) and we could also
perform different checks to verify that the "real OS image" is correct
before loading it.
The only problem is how to load the second image (renaming/replacing
nk.bin is not possible, since this would ruin the idea of keeping this
a safe way to load stuff regardless of power failures etc) i would
like the "boot-image" to be placed in a safe raw-formatted drive, so
whatever happens(under "normal" conditions:), the unit will ALWAYS
load the "boot-image")
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
