The reason typically would be to avoid the overhead (compression etc) that
occurs in the Object Store. A RAM disk can be much faster...

Since all a RAM disk is is a section of RAM that's made to look like a
disk, of course it's possible. That doesn't mean that it makes sense to
do it, or that a given DLL, which might have been built to target a later
version of CE than the Pocket PC 2003 runs will work on it!
Pocket PC 2003's *entire root filesystem* is RAM. So, it doesn't make
sense to have some other type of RAM disk there, too. Why would you wish
to do that?

Hi Paul,
Sorry for any misunderstanding .
I could explain my requirement properly.
As I know about RAMDisk is "segment of random access memory (RAM) as
secondary storage (RAMdisk as a virtual drive is in a fact a part of
RAM)" I
got the RAMDISK.DLL + ceramdrv.exe, which creates RAMdrive in my WM5 &
WinCE
5.0 device. Now I ran the same in Pocket PC 2003, but it dint'. I
searched a
lot if this RAMdisk could also be created in Pocket PC 2003, but no info
is
there. So here I wanted to know is it possible to create RAMdisk in
Pocket PC
2003?

You still haven't said why. No program I've ever written *required* a
RAM
disk. That seems like a silly, pointless requirement.
WM5 *includes* Pocket PC devices, so I don't understand what distinction
you're trying to make there (works on WM5, but maybe not Pocket PC --
that's
a non-sensical statement). If you're having problems, you'll have to be
much more-specific. What the heck do you mean by Pocket PC device?
What
version of Pocket PC? If it's Pocket PC 2003 or earlier, the whole
filesystem is a RAM drive! If it's later than that, you're talking
about
Windows Mobile 5.

First of all thanks for the REPLY :)
My application need to cerate a RAM drive in WM5 device, and then do
the
further processing. I was wondering if my application could work upon
PC based devices also.
I got some sample executables which create a RAM drive in WM5 and
WinCE
based devices, but that application is throwing error in Pocket PC
devices.
May I know any source of information, where I could learn how to
create
RAM
drive of a defined size in WM5/WinCE based devices.
Thanks,
- Rahul

No, there is no RAM disk on newer Pocket PC devices. Older Pocket PC
devices *only* had a RAM disk! Tell us why you think you need
this...

Hi,
In my application for WM5 based devices, I am having a requirement
to
create
a memory partition, which will be deleted automatically on
warm-boot.
This
memory block should be appeared in drop down box of "Storage Card"
section of
Memory CPL. It means creation of a RAM drive.
If anybody knows how to proceed for this task, please let me know
.
Thanks .
