Re: Can't build project with Purchased Platform Builder

It should build with the purchased tools just as it does with the
evaluation. There are actually almost no differences between the two, other
than the timeout in makeimg. Something about your install of the real stuff
goofed things up, whether that was because of previously-applied QFEs or
what I don't know.

I'd just do a quick clean Sysgen and see if things really are messed up or
not (I'm guessing yes, but it will take a lot longer to reinstall than to do
a Sygen, I'd think).

If you find that you do have to reinstall, I'd completely uninstall all CE
Platform Builder items in the catalog, remove (after backing up), the
wincepb50.ini file from \windows, then install PB5 and each of the QFEs, in
date order. And, yes, that means uninstalling CE6 and reinstalling it later
(shame on MS for that).

My recommendation is *NOT* to have PB5 and PB6 on the same computer. You
might get it to work, but the effort is not worth it, in my opinion. Just
get another PC set up and use that for CE6 development. You won't have to
worry about what order things were installed, communication DLLs from one
version not working with the other, etc. It's a huge savings in headaches.

HI Paul,

I realize the build and sysgen builds the precompiled microsoft stuff. In
fact I have done it before to debug something in a different project and
it
worked fine. I am suprised it does not build with the purchased tools.
You
are right though, I don't need to be doing a build and sysgen in this
case.
So I need to fix my Platform Builder tools, now that this has messed
things
up. To repair my tools will it be as simple as putting the 5.0 CD back in
and hitting repair and installing the updates again? or do I have to
uninstall and reinstall the 5.0 tools? My fear is that I am trying to
have
5.0 and 6.0 tools on the same computer. I know that you must install 5.0
tools before 6.0 tools or the 5.0 install shield does not work. Since my
6.0
tools are working i don't want to have to unstall these.

NEVER use Build and Sysgen. That option is just there for Microsoft to
use
to build everything, which you should never need to do (it's best to
remove
it from your menu, so you don't hit it by accident). You can search the
archives of microsoft.public.windowsce.platbuilder for information on why
this build option is not what you want. Sysgen is fine for you.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid that you've messed up the libraries and you may
be
forced to reinstall PB to get back to a buildable state. If a plain
Sysgen
(with the Clean flag set), doesn't result in an error-free build, you'll
have to do that.

Yes, you should install the updates in date order. Start with the 2006
Yearly update, which includes all previous years, too, then install
January
2007, February 2007, etc. through November 2007. In theory, the update
process is supposed to handle out-of-sequence updates, but I don't trust
it.
By the way, that's ARMv4i ("i" as in "ice", not "1") -- FYI.

Hi

I have a project I have been building with the evaluation version of
platform Builder. It targets an M31 on a logic development board. My
evaluation tools timed out so I paid the $2000 dollars or so for the
non
evaluation version. I am unable to get past the build part of a Build
and
Sysgen. I get the following error:
h:\WINCE500\PUBLIC\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\USB\CLASS\STORAGE\CLASS\usbmsc.c(691)
: error C2065: 'USBMSC_SUBCLASS_RESERVED' : undeclared identifier

I am not sure why I am getting this error. Could I have messed up the
updates or something? I think I installed all the arm41 updates? By
the
way
do Windows CE 5.0 updates have to be installed in order?
