No, not really. This is just basic network junk. I mean, you could use
FTP, HTTP (WinINet API), some random protocol that you come up with yourself
sent via a socket, etc. (WinSock). I'm not sure that there's a question
here.

I have two projects, one on CE 4.2 and the other on CE 5 where my
devices use serial ports to communicate back to the central server.
We are now looking to add 802.11 support to both and I am looking at
how to perform this communication over TCPIP.
I am not using MFC, the compact framework and currently no COM/DCOM
components.
I was thinking an approach would be to have the units contact the
server via some (unknown with one) protocol to register and await
instructions. When instructed, have the units access an FTP repository
and extract the instructed files and upload any files.
Any insight on what components to use, and the design of the
communication is appreciated.
