Shutting a system down is an optional thing that can be handled in various
ways, or not at all. The "standard" way of doing it from a CE perspective
would be to call SetSystemPowerState() with the POWER_STATE_OFF flag. That
may not be (probably is not) implemented on your platform.

Hai Dean,
Now I would like to shut down the system and then analyse the similar
issue
.Is there any standard way to shut down any x86 compatible board from my
ce
application.
Where can i find the code/instructions/IOCTLs for my Intel Chipset and
processor based system to shut down.
I think there should be some standard x86 assy. line code for this
purpose.
Can you please help me out on this?
Thanks in advance
With Regards
Pathy

Sounds like someone is not calling NKForceCleanBoot() in OemInit. Memory
contents are rotting because you lost power, but not enough for the OS to
detect it by itself. Leaving the power off for a long time trashes the
memory enough that the OS detects it and boots cleanly, otherwise it
thinks
contents are still valid and tries to do a warm boot. Memory really
isn't
valid, so the system crashes.

Thanks Luc,
I have used CEPC and downloaded necessary drivers from Intel site.
Now my image is getting booted without any problem.
But if i power down my target device using the power switch.
It is not booting next time. It gives some memory related
error(captured
using serial debug).Errors are random in nature but all are memory
related.
If i remove the power card from the device and boot my device after
some
time
it boots normally. And i reboot using my reboot.exe (which is an assy.
code),
then there is no such problem. It is happening only if i use my power
button
to reboot the targrt system.
It looks strange , what could be the problem........??
Thanks a lot

Hi,
you might give it a try with the CEPC:X86. If your board is vesa
compatible,
you can use the VGA Linear[Flat] Framebuffer as video driver. Try to
find
yourself a PCI network card that is supported in CE to get started
with.
Sound is a more difficult story PB has the ensoniq ES1371 driver. CE
used
to
work with SB compatible cards as well. Maybe someone else can clear
this
up.
A lot of things depend on what you would like to do. If you want to
evaluate
windows ce, you can go into that direction. If you want to use the
board
in
a product, you better look for one that comes with a BSP. If you get
very
good prices for that specific board, and really want to use it in your
final
product, you can develop the missing drivers yourself.... Or let
someone
with expierence do it for you. It might have a impact on your time to
market.
