Re: Wifi key ?

It's not the chipset that matters, it's the firmware around it.

Did you look at LAN->Wifi adapters? This is probably easiest for your customer. These modules you simply plug into the LAN socket, and voila: Wifi!

Thanks Paul.

Excuse me, but i always need help. It's quite hard for me to explain the problem in english !
I don't want to offend you!
I already tried to use google to find an other solution but i found nothing for the moment.
We can't redesign our hardware so...i can forget any hardware modification.

What i wanted to say was:

In fact we can't redesign our hardware and we already give the possibility to get an USB key for our customer ! So at the moment i can't use an other solution than USB stick. So i'm asking for help if someone (you or other persons) is in the same case and has find a solution. The only way i can use is to find an other stick with windows CE driver.
By the way we don't have Sdio slot on our hardware.

Thanks Paul.

Waiting for news...I'm searching on Google but i get very poor information.

Manufacturer don't spend their time to develop a wince driver.

Thanks.

PS: Opening the USR805421, i saw a chipset Broadcom BCM4320. Maybe other USB key use the same chipset ?

Hey, you DEFINITELY don't want to wait for me to help you with this (remember, no one here works for Microsoft and, frankly, even if we did, finding a USB/WiFi adapter for you wouldn't be our job). This one is your responsibility. If it were me, Google "802.11 usb driver "windows ce"" and see if you can find anything that will work for you. If not, forget USB and look for another method of connecting the WiFi to your hardware, SDIO might be possible, although the only SDIO adapter that I was aware of went away, too. At that point, you could hire someone to write a driver for a USB stick that you like, redesign your hardware with an interface for which you can get a card that has a CE driver (Summit Data Communications has an OEM module that you could wire directly to your device bus), or, as you said, use an external Ethernet-to-wireless adapter.

Ok thanks Paul.
I'm not very satisfied because i already have an ethernet adapter on my product.
With your solution, is it possible to add an ethernet - Wifi adapter ? But it comes very hard to install !

But the Wifi key USR was ideal for viewing Wifi network.
Excuse me if my english is bad!

Waiting for news if you get some information... about an other wifi key or alternative solution.

I should have noted that this is wired LAN, not WiFi, of course. There just aren't many USB-based WiFi products out there with CE drivers. The effort to support CE is substantial and the sales potential is pretty small, compared to XP/Vista. We need someone, as Summit Data Communications has done with Compact Flash/PCMCIA, to come out with an embedded-targeted USB WiFi device and really support it.

Here's a message from another thread in .app.development. It gives an alternative USB stick with Windows CE drivers.

Hi,

You can purchase a USB-to-LAN adapter with WinCE driver support to get an
Ethernet connection with your PC. The following are some available ASIX's
USB-to-LAN solutions in the market for your reference. You can download the
latest ASIX's USB-to-LAN WinCE 5.0/6.0 drivers from ASIX's web site
(http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=ProductList&PLine=71) directly.

All ASIX's USB-to-LAN drivers were qualified on ASIX's USB-to-LAN demo
boards with ASIX's default VID/PID. If these drivers couldn't work with your
USB-to-LAN adapter, you might need to contact the manufacturer's support guys
to get the correct driver. Hope this information is helpful for you to solve
your issue soon.

USR has not released *any* more USB RNDIS devices, so pick *any* model and it won't work. There are no other USB RNDIS devices out there that I've ever found. You need to find a supplier that has a driver themselves that will work. You can't count on some built-in driver that comes with Windows CE to work with *any* device out there.

Hello,

Have you heard about a Wifi key (a wifi stick) which is working on windows CE.

I use the US Robotics USR5421 but we can't find this key anymore! This key use the rndis driver.

Thanks for your help.

Fred_d

I am not shure, but FUNKWERK in Germany provide an CE-working wifi-tick
