Not incompatible per se, it should install fine. VS2005 itself should have
no problem at all. There are issues with the CE6 plugin to VS2005 in a side
by side installation with previous versions of CE that cause some of the
remote tools to break though.

Hi Dean,
I tried to install VS2005 that comes with WinCE6.0 but seems like its
incompatible with the platform builder tool that i install with Wince5.0.

You can't use VS6 to do CE development. If you want to use Visual Studio
to
write native applications, you need to install VS2005. And yes, you'll
probably have trouble converting EVC apps to VS and vice versa. But you
really don't want to use EVC for apps development anymore; it's not
supported at all starting with CE6.
Just stay with VS2005...

Hi Dean,
Though the OS developer and the app developer is the same, me.
But some how i developed the app before the os as we were not prety
sure
whether to use winCE 5.0 or 6.0. The app was developed using VC++6.0
and
the
os with winCE5.0. After developing the SDK for the same I wrote a
simple
app
in Embedded VS 4.0 and after building the exe it ported the image to
the
target board and i was able to sucessfully run the same on the target.
But in VS6.0 i am not able to find any option to configure the platform
manager under the tools tab but the same was present in Embedded VS
4.0.
even
though i copied the PBAddInWiz.awx to the right folder.
Is it that VS6.0 doesn't support Platform Builder tool.
Another thing is when I tried to port the same app from VS6.0 to
embeddedVS4.0 i am getting a lot of linking errors the same question i
have
also put in another post titled "Linker Error - LNK2019"

You can do app development with VS2005, but that will require you to
have
the SDK. You can also build your app with Platform Builder, probably
best
done as a subproject. The application will build when you build the
rest
of your OS. This mechanism also causes the application to be included
in
the image automatically.
PB isn't as nice an app dev tool as VS, and it doesn't work well if
your
app developers are different from your OS developers. If your
application
is something that you're going to maintain separately from the OS then
it's
also probably not the way to go. But if you, the OS developer, are
also
doing the app then this can be a convenient mechanism.

Hi I am new to WinCE applicetion developement.
While I created the wince5.0 image for my gateway application, I
simultaniously developed the application in VisualStudio6.0.
My question is can is there any way that i can directly link my app
with
the
OS image without first creating the SDK for the OS image and then
linking
it
with the MS embedded visualC++ 4.0 to build my application. I mean
as
of
now
that is my understanding.
Can somebody help me out.
