Any way to monitor other applications events?

Dear all,

We are developing an automated test machine, or program for windows
mobile. It will simulate user's input to send keyboard and mouse event
for target application, meanwhile need to know target program's
reponse, like whether the button had been enabled, what's message on
target application's status bar, etc. Does any body know how to
achieve this even if the target application does not provide any API?
