Re: Code C80003F9

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

It appears that the Windows Update Agent has installed properly, Tom.

Are you trying to update to SP2 or are you trying to update a system with Vista SP2 already installed ?

Which firewall is being used and what is the installed antivirus/security suite ?
If the installed AV is configured to scan the locked file that stores the updating database, then it may have corrupted it. Or, the installed AV/firewall may be preventing the WUA from writing to the updating database.

2009-11-16 14:27:27:967 1152 130c PT WARNING: PopulateDataStore failed: 0xc80003f9

Suggest you rename DataStore.edb, located in
Windows\Software Distribution\DataStore
to see if corruption is the issue.

You'll have to Stop the Windows Update service and BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer service), if it's a running service, prior to renaming DataStore.edb.
To access the Services console, click the Start orb; in the Start Search field, type in
services.msc
Under 'Programs', *right* click services.msc and choose 'Run as administrator'. Enter a password, if one is used, and click the Continue button. If no p/w is used, click the Continue button.
Rename DataStore.edb to DataStore.old.

NOTE: Renaming DataStore.edb will remove the updating history shown when opening Windows Update in the Control Panel and then clicking the 'View update history' link.

DataStore.edb will be recreated when the system next checks for updates.

BTW, *all* Security updates for Vista can obtained manually from the Microsoft Download Center:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?

Enter the KB number of the update in the 'Search All Microsoft Download Center' field.

A full list of Security updates issued by month can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx

Vista Sp2 gives me a error on one of our office computers.
During updating it states:

Er is een fout opgetreden tijdens het zoeken naar nieuwe updates voor uw computer.

Fout(en):

Code C80003F9

Er is een onbekende fout in Windows update opgetreden.

This is dutch for: We had a error looking for updates.

I tried installing update agent 7.4.7600.226 but still keeps the error on updates.
Is't there a Xp like of website way to download updates if the other way fails ?

I have read somewhere about ntdsbmsg.dll. This one is not even present on the Vista pc's I looked trough with searching trough hidden and non-indexed folders. Does it still keeps a way to making a solution?
