Re: Vista constantly rebooting after this week's updates - "Config

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi I have had the same problem and with some help have managed to get out of
it, Here goes have to bare with me as I am not very techi ok

Right here goes turn off comp when you turn it back on again keep pressing F
5 then when that window comes up then press F8 then go to the option to repair
once there go to who ever name is signed o to the comp i.e who ever is the
administrator this then will get you to be able to take it back to the
restore point.

I hope this helps. I have a Toshiba lap top. What I got told was that vist
even in safe mode will continue to try to load the updates not like xp. where
you could get back to the restore point easily.

If not, consider beginning a thread about it.

My computer in question is a Dell Latitude Laptop Model 630. It is
approximately 2 months old. I already wrote Microsoft an email (after
having decided that the issue was not addressed in their database). I
also
think it was a patch problem.

The problem with calling is that I need to know the security update patch
#,
but there is no way to know that without first getting into Windows to see
what patch failed to install properly, which is my very problem.

And Bob, I already tried last know good configuration and I still have the
same problem.

The issue is not strictly related to Acer and perhaps not just laptops
as well, Don. I strongly suspect a Security update is involved here thus
the suggestion to call the issue in.

Are all 3 affected systems Acer laptops ?

STRONGLY suggest that you all phone this in to Microsoft's PSS. Tell
them ***specifically*** that this was caused by a Security update.
Perhaps it was

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-004 – Important
Vulnerability in Windows TCP/IP Could Allow Denial of Service (946456)

that caused this issue. Or it could have been

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-007 – Critical
Vulnerability in WebDAV Mini-Redirector Could Allow Remote Code
Execution (946026)

There is no-charge support for issues with Security updates:

Support
• Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support
from
Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no
charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates.
• International customers can receive support from their local
Microsoft subsidiaries. There is no charge for support that is
associated with security updates. For more information about how to
contact Microsoft for support issues, visit the International Support
Web site. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=21155

Make them troubleshoot just which update is causing the rebooting.
After
all, it was their update
that caused this issue <w>

I am having the exact same problem. I can't even get into Vista to
try to change directories as has been suggested elsewhere in this
forum. I have tried booting in safe mode and jumping back to system
save point. Neither work (as I still get the step 3 of 3 and then
another reboot). I really don't want to have to reinstall vista.
Help please!

My son (away at university) has just installed this week's Microsoft
updates and now is unable to get his laptop re-started (it's an Acer
Aspire 5633 about a year old).

It says "Configuring Updates. Stage 3 of 3 0% Complete.
Then it says "Shutting Down" and restarts the whole cycle. This
goes
on and on....

He has tried to get it into Safe Mode but it won't, just goes back
into the cycle described above.

I've searched on Google and come up with only one hit - that
described
identical symptoms and was posted in a blog about three hours ago.
There are some references to the same message related to SP1
installation but my son is just using the standard Microsoft Update
service - not gone near SP1.

Is anyone else getting this symptom and has anyone any ideas how to
get out of it without wiping the whole machine?

Many thanks for any help.
