For more than a year, I have been unable to update my version of Windows XP.
Your computer's been infected with hijackware for more than a year.
Backup your personal data, then do a format & clean install of Windows. Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT fix this!
After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting the machine to the internet or a network and before using a USB key that isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted:

Currently, whenever or however I attempt to reach the Windows Update site, I
am sent to Google. Any way I try, I am sent to Google. I've done everything
that I can think of to try to resolve this, all to no avail. If you know of
any way to help, please post your advice.
