I've had this problem for two weeks. Contacted Microsoft but two of their
techs can't figure it out. Sure hope someone on this forum has an answer.
There are two error messages involved, 80070424 and 80070005. They appear
when you try to use either Windows Update and/or Defender Update. I have
tried numerous suggested solutions on different forums but nothing has
worked.
I do not have the Windows Update service in my Services database. I tried
to download and install it but received the 80070005 error message. Catch 22
all over again.
Sorry to rant, but I am really upset with Microsoft. I have read hundreds
of posts similar to ours but they apparently aren't listening. Very, very
frustrating!

I'm running Vista and I've tried to manually check for Windows Updates -.
after starting the check, the "Checking for updates.." bar just revolves, and
the Windows Updates icon in the system tray shows "Windows can't check for
updates".
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
