Then go down inside the Window and copy down (post here) the

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp.080320-1628 : Service Pack 3)
Uninstall whatever SP3 you have (Windows XP SP3 RC2 Refresh I think...)
installed and install the full release...
(Control Panell --> Add or Remove Programs --> Chekc the "Show Updates"
checkbox and find the old SP3 and remove it.)

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation
http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron/archive/2008/05/08/windows-xp-sp3-read-all-prerequisites-for-a-successful-installation.aspx
Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717
Suggestions:
1) Download the full SP3 installation file and/or burn the ISO download
to
CD.
2) Ensure (as well as plausible) you have no spyware/malware by doing a
full
scan with SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes.
3) CHKDSK
4) Defragment
5) Ensure your hardware drivers are up to date (from the hardware
manufacturer's respective web pages.)
6) Reboot right before you try to install SP3.
7) Disconnect from the internet before installing (physically.)
8) Disable your antivirus and antispyware applications when you are about
to
install SP3.
I think - if you follow the above - your problems should disappear soon.
(And don't install betas anymore. heh)

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Hi Shenan,
I will follow your suggestions, and procedure for a reinstallation of SP3.
I do intend to try updater between uninstall-reinstall jus for the
hell of it lol!
I have one query though. I was not aware of using a beta, I just had SP3
hidden
under notification settings on windows updater for a while, whilst I let
it loose on my work machine, where it is still fine AFAIK , did I miss
some thing
when I used the custom button to d'load it? I wiil check back in after I
work my
way through your list. Fingers crossed ( I always type better like that!).
Best Regards Mike.
Its been a long evening but----*It worked!* You're a genius!!
FYI, one step I couldn't follow was the defrag. dfrg.msc couldnt run from
cmd line or
c-properties-tools -defragment. an old version after sp3 uninstall maybe?
Cant thank you enough this was really bugging me lol
Best Regards Mike
.
