Getting the same update over and over!!!

HELP!!!
I have finally solved this original problem (see below) but NOW we keep
getting the same update over and over! (Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)
My update history shows that it has installed like every day for over a
month now. I found a link from 12/24/08 "repeating update" that took me to,
"How to trouble shoot Windows Update when you are repeatedly offered an
update". I tried installing the Malicious Software Removal Tool, it seemed
to be successful but I still get the update... I have AVG anti-virus and
windows defender... The next step is to install the update in the safe mode.
THAT intimidates me some??? Is there any other solution to this problem?
Does it matter that I keep getting the same update over and over??? As for
"video card and version of the drivers/software that
you have installed, versions of the .NET Framework you have and lay out any
trouble-shooting method/fix you have attempted in the past"... I'm not sure
how to get that info.

I followed the instructions in Method 1 several times without success. I
did not want to try Method 2 because it required another Download....
I've added RAM we're trying to move things to an external hard drive but I
am out of disk space!! I think we're right around 15% now I think.
I've tried to follow a couple of the links that PA Bear posted here and
found that I have .NET Framework Version 1.1 and 2.0 both SP 1.... but I was
quickly overwhelmed and decided that I needed the instructions "dumbed down".
I will look into your suggestions (Stanley) and see if I can get those to
work????

Well - if you have .NET Framework 1.1 installed (you likely do given the
information you have) and you plan on keeping it installed (perhaps some
applcuiation you have installed uses it - very likely) then you should
install all the patches and updates for said software. Son in the case I
have laid out - the answer would be 'Yes, you need Security Update for
Microsoft .NetFramework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1...'
Now - although you didn't ask anything else - you did lay out your scenario.
Casual observation along with experience with the OS and even the problems
you lay out as having lead me to believe your machine does have problems
(and although it is evident from the installation of a Microsoft product -
the problem is with your machine and your stuff - the update installs for
thousands or millions of other people with no problem.)
You also did not ask "why" you should install Security Update for Microsoft
..NetFramework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1, but I can easily volunteer that
information as part of my answer. It includes more than 90 fixes for .Net
Framework 1.1.

As for your situation you described - although you did not ask for help the
