Bear,
It's McAfee Security Center 9.0 I believe. This computer (a Dell) is about
three years old. A freebie McAfee (not the security center) came
pre-installed from Dell but I went ahead and purchased an upgrade (the entire
McAfee Security Center) through an "Upgrade" offer from McAfee after
registering the freebie product (shortly after purchase). This upgrade was
an online purchase and everything was downloaded. I'm subscribed to McAfee
and get all updates automatically.

Has another McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a

Apparently, McAfee Security Center was blocking this update. I
temporarily
disabled McAfee's VirusGuard Active Scanner, Spyware Guard and
SystemsGuard
(which guards against changes to your PC files) and the update went
through!
