Re: where is the windows malicous software removal tool for Dec?

Hmmm... this isn't the first time MS software 'thinks' its own product is a
malware :-)
Thanks for the info.

There is/was an issue with it. I could find no information from MS but
found this on a private anti-malware site:

Note: On 19th November a signature for TrojanDropper:Win32/Renos.N
started detecting particular uninstall files. This incorrect detection
affects users of all Microsoft Antivirus solutions, including MSRT
(Malicious Software Removal Tool) December 2008 (version 2.5.2419.0). On
9th December Microsoft released a new signature that addresses the issue.
Signature versions 1.49.299.0 and higher include this fix, as does the
latest version of MSRT December 2008
(version 2.5.2423.0).

And, this link to a thread which discusses the FP:
http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=28749

QED: If the fixed version was rereleased on the 9th, why is it NOT on WU
nor coming down to my systems via AU ?

Perhaps there's a problem with it.

Strange thing is, I did a manual update on 2 Windows Server 2003, on Dec
9 at around 2 PM Pacific Time. Both servers picked up MRT update.

MRT.EXE file properties:
Version 2.5.2419.0
Size 16.7MB
Digital Signature timestamp: Tuesday, December 02, 2008 1:26:47 PM

none of them are connected
and i have been running the tool manually- which yes is a pita
but how come Microsoft did not put it in Automatic updates?
It always is. Hopefully they will look in here and figure it out.

I am just surprised why it is not in WU.
and i did see it when i went to download it that it is dated the 10th.
Strange

Not seeing it here from neither AU nor WU, robin. Sounds like you need
the tool for 40 systems not networked ... correct ?
That can't be done as it won't run remotely.
You can do a manual install onto the remote systems but that would be a
HUGE PITA:

As to why MRT has not come down in some locations ... ?
