Thanks Dave! I will try the registry restore from my backup program! Looking
forward to having the newer Operating Systems that have that feature built
in...

First, I'm no expert but I had a similar problem (see 'updates for 9/10
Dec - Vista' in this forum).

Try a roll back to a registry restore from before this problem; that's what
I did. I then installed the updates several at a time and for some strange
reason, that seemed to do the trick.

I knew the problem was caused by the updates since the problem occurred only
after I installed those 13 updates (from Dec 9 or 10) and my wife's laptop,
which was not updated, worked just fine on the same exact router.

That's about the only advice I can give. I hope it works out well for you.

My IP address will come up; I cannot ping using web or IP address. There
is
no router. :o) Yes, this is an old system and a replacement is in the
works.
If I can limp along with this one for a bit longer that would be ideal.
Thanks!

I'm hoping you're defining "cannot access the Internet" more than just
using
your browser or email.

* check your IP address [maybe renew it]
* light on NIC on? on router?
* ping a known good site
* tracert

PS - A reminder that the remaining support [i.e. security updates] for
Win
2K fie out in April or May next year. May want to nudge Santa to get you
a
new system. :-)

Once my update installation completed I cannot access the internet. I
spent
an hour on the phone with my ISP's tech support thinking there was
something
wrong there. Since that is not the case I assume something is wrong
with the
update and believe this more so since so many others have reported
issues on
this site. I was unable to find any fixes or support on the Microsoft
site
for Win 2000. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have homework due
tonight.
UGH! Thanks in advance!!
