OK folks, YES!!! I did see the this is for advanced computer
users!! I would not have to take these messures if the program
would WORK like it should or their support would respond back or
work!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waited over 3 hours for a responce on their
LIVE help which supposedly had NO wait!! And did not get any one,
just cut off!! Now as far as the notebook bit, yes I downloaded the
program, have no idea how to access it and yes I cut and paste in
notebook, clicked save, double clicked on the pasted portion and
nothing. So I am wondering what I am doing wrong. I was HOPING some
one here would have a little compasion for the fact that all I want
to do is get SP3 to load and work, not bash me for the fact that I
do not work with computers every day and am not up on the ins and
outs. Its amazing, if the program worked RIGHT in the first place,
then I would not have to post this in the first place. But
obviously it does not, by the multiple people who have posted such
and obviously Microsoft does not care by their poor responce or
help. I would really just like to get this loaded, so that I can
get any other updates my PC may need, beings it will not even
search for any others until this is installed, NICE HUH! So if
someone could help me, I am PC NEWB HERE, it would be GREATLY
appreciated!! I am obviously not understanding something about
method 3, but have no clue what it is. If some one could just
explain it a little more in depth, I think I could get it!! Thanks!
I explained "method 3" (although it is not called that anymore) in detail.
If you follow those directions, you will get through it. In case you did
not see what I posted - here it is again.
You download and install subinacl on your own computer and then
copy/past a script into notepad and save it as a specific name and then run
that script you created.
1. Download and then install the Subinacl.exe file. To download this, visit
the
following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en
Double-click on the downloaded file to install it.
2. Start Notepad.
3.Copy and then paste the following text (7 total lines - your newsreader
might word-wrap) into Notepad.
cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
/grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
/grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
/grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f
/grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f
/grant=system=f
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb
/verbose
4. Save this Notepad file as Reset.cmd (where is unimportant.).
5. Double-click the Reset.cmd file to run the script.
Note: This script file may take a long time to run. Additionally, you have
to run this script as an administrator and reboot afterwards.
6. Install Windows XP SP3.
It doesn't really get anymore simplistic in explanation that that.
Download/install one application, copy/paste 7 lines of text into NOTEPAD
and save it as RESET.CMD (Save As, change from TEXT to ALL FILES and type in
the name as given - perhaps choosing to save it to the DESKTOP as a
location.), double-click on the saved file to run it, wait for it to finish
and when it does, reboot and install Windows XP SP3.
