Re: unable to browse web after installing kb958644 onto windows se

Yeah I know .....

The update has been failing since 10/29 - I only just noticed the problem,
as everything else on the network is good.

I just logged in to the server & turned off the Web Shield component as per
the AVG FAQ and now the browser works - which means the MS KB958644 hotfix
isn't the cause. Going to patch the box tonight when I get home.

PS: Sorry to crash the thread ......

Your AVG IS is woefully outdated: http://www.avg.com/faq.num-1467

I'm having exactly the same issue - but my AVG version is 8.0.191.

AVG Internet Security Network Edition on Windows Server 2003 R2 Service
Pack
2.

All network connectivity works except for browsing AND the AVG updates
which
uses http. Didn't notice until a couple of days ago, as I typically don't
do
much browsing on the server. Once I noticed the problem, by going back
through the system log, I found that the AVG update via http first failed
after doing both an AVG update and installing KB958644. After the reboot
was
when the problem first started.

Another thread says to try resetting IPSEC - KB article 912023.

I'm going to try the fixfiles program from AVG first, then if that doesn't
work, try resetting the IPSEC........

Mike, are you running AVG AV Pro, Internet Security, or AV plus Firewall
v8.0.196?

Hi

Problem sorted, it was an issue with the latest update on AVG Anti
Virus.

As it happened, the windows update and AVG update must happened at the
same
time.

I presumed it was the Microsoft update which screwed things up
(apologies
Microsoft!).

The AVG support page had a small fix:-
