Re: Windows Update Error on XP 64bit: update is redirected from v6

First let me thank you for your continued help MowGreen. Although this
update thing is not critical (I still get automatic updates) it is plaguing
and I'd like to resolve it.

I cannot for the life of me recall why the lock pages in memory was set but
I stopped it, did a cold boot, and afterward tried windows update, but still
get the redirect.

Hosts file is clear of any reference to windows update; it's one of the
first things I checked and continue to check to be sure lol

I have no lmhosts file outside the sam file.

This was a fresh install on a new hd and has been extremely stable ..

Locking pages in memory is not required on 64-bit operating systems.

I'm not sure if that's the cause of the issue but, why did you enable
that setting ? Are you working with an SQL database ?

Antivir *usually* does not interfere with the installation of core
system updating components.
Forgot to ask if you checked the hosts file ... did you ?
Also, check to see if there's an lmhosts file [not lmhosts.sam as that's
just a sample file]. If there is, open it and see if it's pointing
towards the v4 site.
One thing we do know ... some 'thing' is definitely redirecting the
system to the old site.
Give this a shot, please. Go to Start > Run > type this into the Open:
line and then click OK or press Enter

wuauclt /detectnow

Wait about 3-5 minutes or until no activity is showing in the local area
connection icon. Open the WindowsUpdate.log and post at least the last
50 or so lines of the log into your reply, please.
Open the WU.log from Start > Run > type in, then click OK or press Enter

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

BTW, was this a clean reinstall of XP or a Repair Install ?
