AU Check sets the Permissions unless 3rd party software interferes with it. What is the installed security software and was it *completely* disabled when AU Check was run ?

Open the AULOGS subfolder located in the root drive [the drive where WINDOWS is installed to, usually C:\] Extract the contents of the data.cab as you would a .zip file.
Drill down and open WinHTTP_log.txt and gpresult.txt.
Post their contents into your reply, please.

*** IF a 3rd party firewall is being used then Disable it and Enable the native XP firewall. The system must be connected in order to download required updating software components. ***

Now run au_check_v78a_codeplex.exe and allow it some time to complete it's operation.
*** Reenable any 3rd party firewall if one was disabled and then Disable the Windows Firewall ***
Restart the system now.

Is the issue resolved now ?

I have problem with Windows Update within my XP 64bit SP2.
Recenty I reinstalled my system and installed Windows and update normally. But after that first update, I can't access Windows update anymore. I automatically redirects the http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us to the old http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp site.
All I got is the notification Windows Update Error. No error code, just that.
I tried couple of things but nothing works (clearing cache and setting of IE, unregistering and registering some DLLs, reinstalling WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe etc.).
Is there a way to change somewhere the old v4 site link to the latest one v6?
Does anybody has suggestion for me?
