Just because it's not there means nothing, Avast is a decent app. There are some on that list that I would never recommend and cringe every time I have to deal with them.

Thank you for this information. I was not aware of Avast. I checked the
independent comparatives and found that Avast has good performance. (See
report from August 2008 http://www.av-comparatives.org.)
However, Avast is not listed as a Microsoft vendor. See list updated April
2008 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/49500.
I have already purchased a Norton subscription but will keep an open mind to
consider other products when it expires.

It was probably trying to get rid of Norton but couldn't. You do know
that Symantec is only trying to milk every dollar out of Peter Norton's
name, don't you? In short, you would be better off with Avast which is
free and using the Windows Firewall than exposing your computer to the
tentacles of Norton.
