Re: Windows Update Error on XP 64bit: update is redirected from v6

Nice application that took minutes as opposed to hours to complete manually
but unfortunately, still no joy. Not only am I redirected to v4 but I also
now have "Administrators Only" error lol But I appreciate the effort,
MowGreen, and the quick response. Much thanks :)

WINDOWS\SysWow64\drivers\etc to see if the update sites have been added
to it. Delete them if present.

If no joy, go here, download and *save*: AU Check (v78a)
Once the download completes close *all* open browsers and programs.
Temp disable the installed AV/security suite. If need be, consult the
User Guide or visit the manufacturer's web site to learn how this is
done. All processes and services of the above need to be temp disabled.

required updating software components. ***

Now run au_check_v78a_codeplex.exe and allow it some time to complete
it's operation.
*** Reenable any 3rd party firewall if one was disabled and then Disable
the Windows Firewall ***
Restart the system now.

Is the issue resolved now ?

None of these suggestions did it for me. Any others? I went with windoz
support and the guy who was "helping" me was totally clueless about 64-bit
systems so I thought I'd check back here.

Hello.
I have problem with Windows Update within my XP 64bit SP2.
Recenty I reinstalled my system and installed Windows and update normally.
But after that first update, I can't access Windows update anymore. I
automatically redirects the
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us to the old
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp site.
All I got is the notification Windows Update Error. No error code, just that.
I tried couple of things but nothing works (clearing cache and setting of
IE, unregistering and registering some DLLs, reinstalling
WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe etc.).
Is there a way to change somewhere the old v4 site link to the latest one v6?
Does anybody has suggestion for me?
