Not necessarily: Are you in fact logged on as Administrator?
Did you install Vista SP1 via Windows Update or manually?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed Vista SP1?
Unlimited installation and compatibility support for Vista SP1 is available at no charge through 18 Mar-09

Hello,
My problem im experiencing is that after installing and checking for Vista
updates I tryed clicking on get updates for more products because I was
having problems with my office one note and it told me to get an update from
microsoft. When I went through the process it told me this: To install
updates from this website, you must be logged on as an administrator or a
member of the Administrators group on your computer. If you use Windows XP,
you can see if you are an administrator by going to User Accounts in Control
Panel.
Note: If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings
might also prevent you using this website. Contact your system administrator
for help with updates. I'm the only user on this computer so obviously I'm
the administrator and I went in and disabled the network settings to make
sure there were no problems there. Still no luck. I'm operating a HP
paviliion dv6400 with windows vista sp1. I tryed disabling the firewall and
rebooting the computer twice to make sure the changes took effect. I 'm
pretty sure I can download the updates manually but I was hoping to get this
fixed for convience sakes . Any ideas anyone?
