Re: Windows Vista update

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello,

I am struglged all day with trying to install VISTA service pack 1. I
finally caame across your post and solution.

Just to advise, it did not work for me.

I made the command prompt change and got the window saying it was
successful. But Check for Updates did not suggest `Service Pack 1`. I note
that PA Bear [MS MVP] stated in a post to "birdkeeper" under the

thread "windows vista service pack problem"

"I would NOT attempt to download/install Vista SP1 unless and until it's
offered by Windows Update, "

I read this after downloading the 435 meg SP1 file since I cannot access
download for SP1 by any other method at the MSN download site.

Install fails with this error code given, 0x80073712

I have not yet found any other users reporting this message.

This seems to be a catch 22. I have software (VISTA) that is not running
properly, but i cannot access the Service Pack which may solve the issues i
have running other software under VISTA because I am running VISTA????

any help will be appreciated.

hi,

i tried this step as below:

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories. Right Click the 'Command Prompt'
item and click the 'Run As Administrator' option.

In the Command Prompt window, Paste the following command.

REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL

Press ENTER.

You should see a popup that says the command succeeded.

Exit the command prompt and try Windows Update again.

finally its work and i'm very happy now.

thanks a lot.

Has Service Pack 1 been applied yet ?
Check these 2 services using the Services console as Taurarian's laid out:

Windows Updates - set it to Automatic
Background Intelligent Transfer Service [BITS]- set to Manual, can be
set to Automatic, too.

WinXP?

Click Start, select run, type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
press OK

if that doesn't do the trick:-

Verify that BITS is correctly configured and started:

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
3. In the Startup type box, click Manual, and then click Apply.
4. Click the Log On tab, and then verify that the service is enabled in every hardware
profile that is listed. If the service is disabled in one or more hardware profiles, click
the hardware profile, click Enable, and then click Apply.
5. Click the General tab, and then click Start.
