look onces into my other reply-post ... because I solved my problem ... I
adapted the "security permissions" in/onto that Office module... in the Win
Registers...
Maybe this could solve your problem too ... Give it a try ..

I am running Win XP Home NL SP3 with all updates (except KB921596 :-))..
On my last Power-down I got the message "do not power-off ... Downloaded
Update is installing 1 of 1.. But after checking the installed updates the
KB921596 is still not installed and remains in error.

IF the issue were Permissions in the registry than the error message
should also show up when applying officexp-KB921596-FullFile-NLD.exe, too.
First, show hidden files, folders, and system files:

Then go to Start > Run > type in %temp% and click OK
Open the OHotfix subfolder
The most recent Office installation log [ OHotfix(000xx).log, the last 2
numbers indicate how many installation logs are present ] should be the
very last one. You may have to open several to locate the relevant log.
When you find which one it is check to see if the patch is 'needed'.

IF no Product was located even when the Office XP CD was inserted then

I als tries a manual update ... this is also not succesfull .. there the
error message is "cannot find the expected product version on your system
(in Dutch: kan de verwachte product versie niet vinden op het systeem).
Any ideas how to solve this?? Any help would be appreciates.
I am running WinXP Home NL - SP3 with all updates (except KB921506 here in
error..) So the Dutch version of WinXP.
