Re: KB921596 do not install... Solved !!

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hello all,
Running a "repair" did not solved the problem ..
Then I decided to "uninstall" and "reinstall" my Office XP (and also my NL
Language pack).
During the installation I got the same error 1402 ... pffffffff .. "Setup
cannot open the registry key
KKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\giffile\Shell\Open\ddeexec"
Then I searched on Internet.. Found ==> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838687
Out of this I applied:
In Microsoft Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the subkey that is listed by
the error message.
3. On the Edit menu, click Permissions.
4. Under Group or user names, click Everyone.
Note You must add the Everyone group if it is not available. To do this,
follow these steps:
a. In the Permission for Office dialog box, click Add.
b. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click Advanced.
c. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click Find Now.
d. Under Name (RDN), click Everyone, and then click OK.
e. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click OK.
5.Under Permissions for Everyone, click to select the Full Control check box.
6.Click OK.
7.Quit Registry Editor.

Then I reinstalled my office XP Pro and the installation worked fine !!!
Oef !!
Then I installed all available MS Office Updates (also the KB921596 !!).

So finaly my problem is solved... and it figured-out that it was only a
"permision problem" ... Why and how ????

Many thanks to all of You who have kindly given me all the help I needed !!
Greetings, Adelin

Do NOT run Windows Installer Cleanup utility! It was just a question!

Your use of RegSupreme may have caused this problem. Think your Registry
needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

I'd recommend that you either do an Office Repair or uninstall/reinstall
Office XP/2002.

PA Bear and MowGreen,
Till now I did not run Windows Installer Cleanup utility ... I am a little
bis afraid to perform this ...

And YES .. I run sometimes "RegSupeme 1.3" to clean my Windows Registers..
Could this be the cause of my problem ??

Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry…."

1. Download the update from this link (SAVE it to your desktop, don't
RUN
it):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=bf566ce6-23da-45e5-9c2b-c47331d30e79

2. Insert your Office XP CD (if available) into the appropriate drive
bay.

3. Double-click on the saved file to install the update; follow all
prompts. --
