Re: Error 0x800A0046 when I try to install Microsoft Update.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried your suggestion. I might add that my confidence in it working was
nil.

There were only two logins on my computer: mine (Admin) and guest
(disabled). I am in the USA so only use english. How could I have a
double-byte character in my login name????

But, I did try it and you can imagine my amazement when it worked.

Whomever wrote that web page made the assumption that EVERYONE uses the
standard Vista Start Menu. There is no search box in the 'Classic Menu'.
Based on the phrase 'Control userpasswords' I made the assumption that 'User
Accounts' in Control Panel (which I also use in Classic mode) was what was
meant.

I am just one of many thousands that DO NOT like the Vista inteface. I
can't tell you how many computers I set back to classic. I have been in the
computer business for over thirty years. I don't need glitz. I need
stability

If MS would stop throwing away what works for 'new and UN-improved' people
would be a lot happier.
