After yesterday's windows update, the trial version of Office 2007 that was pre-installed on my notebook has pre-empted the Office XP that I had installed and want to keep running.
It was probably unwise to leave the trial version of Office 2007 installed when installing Office XP. It is likely that the updates were not written with this possibility in mind, and have inadvertently reset the file associations.
I think that Office XP has probably not been uninstalled; you can check by going to the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
I recommend you uninstall Office 2007, then perform a repair installation of Office XP - start by clicking Change next to Office XP in the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
