That down is part of updspapi.log. SP3 tries to delete HKCR\.DVD registry key
getting error 5 Denied Access. That Key is depending to MyDVD.file (Sonic
Roxio burner program, I think). On that key the administrator account has not
the full control. May be that happened during Sonic program installation. The
Sonic program is in bundle with my HP computer, then may be it happened when
I turned on my pc the first time (two years ago...). I really don't
understand the reason why does SP3 want to delete that key and I don't know
if the burner will work fine after SP3 installed. I don't know too how many
keys SP3 is going to delete (and to replace modified...) during its
installation. Subinacl.exe reset administrator account giving to it the full
control to all the registry keys and secedit.exe reset the registry security
to default condition. But in XP Home Edition there isn't secedit.exe and this
one is my question: can I run the Micro reset.cmd tool without secedit.exe?
Simple!

find the Access Denied error.
Check the setupapi and spupdsvc.logs, too. Just do a Find for "access",
wthout the quotes.

Diego,
See if this MSKB article helps:
Error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3: "Access
is denied" or “Service Pack installation did not complete”
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377
Rather the resetting the Permissions suggest you pinpoint where the
Access Denied error is stemming from. Have you checked the svcpack.log,
located in WINDOWS ?

I've got Access Denied error when I've tried to update my XP Home Edition SP2
to SP3 because of the installation program cannot modify the registry. The
installation stopped with that error after 60% progress. Do you know if the
Microsoft tool (subinacl.exe and reset.cmd) does work on XP Home Edition too?
It seems to me (reading the Microsoft instructions) that it works on XP
Professional only. Is that true? Somebody tried that way on XP Home Edition?
And what can you say to me about the secedit.exe file, present in the last
line of reset.cmd script but not existing in XP Home Edition? Can the
reset.cmd work fine without secedit.exe file too? Help me please. Thaks in
advance.
