Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

As previously expected, MG, MVP, your suggestions were not applicable for
56K dialup users, and therefore did nothing to resolve the errors from the
ERRORS that appear when I boot my PC and NOT when I visit the Windows Update
Website.

They also appear after any rebooting. In short, the Windows Update Website
has nothing to do with the following errors that are recorded in the Windows
Update Log file . . .

Thanks for trying.

Enable the following service, reboot, and see if the errors appear in the
WU.log.
If no errors, disable them one at a time, in the order they're listed,
until you find which one is causing the error to appear :

DNS Client
IPSEC Services
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
WebClient

I prefer to manually update Windows XP at
www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us, so the
following Windows XP Services are 'Disabled' when I am not updating:

- Automatic Updates (wuauserv)
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)

However, when I do update, at MS' update website, I set 'Automatic
Updates' to Automatic (and Start the service) and I set 'Background
Intelligent Transfer Service' to Manual (and if there are updates
available, it starts itself and sets Automatic). When finished, if
rebooting is required (after rebooting) or if rebooting is not required,
I return both service to 'Disabled.'

Using Windows Firewall, with no anti-virus software running, as a 56K
dial-up user, home PC, single user, no home network, the remaining
Windows XP SP2 services are set as follows:

How do I correct my system to eliminate the (apparent) errors from
happening, and subsequently being recorded in windowsupdate.log?

Many thanks,
