I have downloaded the update, for the third time, that microsoft

If you have to ask - you obviously did not Google or Google Groups
searches no (seeing how you posted to these newsgroups) did you use
the built-in search feature.

My best guess - given the enormous amount of information you have
given - is that you are utilizing Windows XP (of some flavor) and
also have chosen to disable the built-in firewall and use ZoneAlarm?

If you don't have ZoneAlarm - you may have a new issue for which
you may need to troubleshoot further - as it seems to be unique. I
suggest replying to this conversation and adding additional
information about your system, the patches you are
installing/uninstalling by KB article number and so-on.

yes i am using zone alarm free version, i guess other people are
having a similar issue, i have tried to update zone alarm but no
update is around yet for the free version.

do you think i should disable zone alarm and just use xp firewall?
there must be a better way.
thank for your reply.

For most people the Windows Firewall is more than enough protection
(especially when combined with a router and simple maintenance.)

However - if you wish to continue using the ZoneAlarm Basic (free) Firewall
you have - the link to the latest version *is* on the page I already gave.

In the section that looks like:
-----
Recommended Actions -
Download and install the latest versions which solve the loss of internet
access problem here (English only):

- ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite
- ZoneAlarm Pro
- ZoneAlarm Antivirus
- ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware
- ZoneAlarm Basic Firewall
-----

You have the "ZoneAlarm Basic Firewall", having not known that is what you
have, you may want to reconsider using it. ;-)
